FILIPA M.B. LÃ (Soprano, PhD)
I am a researcher in Arts and Humanities, a singer and a singing teacher. With a background in education(biology) and music (singing), I hold more than 10 years as independent researcher, responsible for interdisciplinary research in Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. Main topics include: gender studies and health education, focusing on professional voice users and performing professions.
Methodological approaches include:
a. gender studies in music education
b. female studies: endocrinology of the female voice
c. didactics of music and voice pedagogy
d. health education for professional voice users and musicians
e. feedback tools in voice pedagogy
f. performance studies
I have 10 years experience in Higher Education:
a. developing and delivering distance learning courses (e-learning);
b. developing pedagogical contents and producing pedagogical supporting materials for several undergraduate and graduate courses;
c. monitoring students’ development;
d. tutoring voice students in one-to-one week lessons;
e. supervising students PhD and master theses;
f. developing curricular programmes for Continuing Educational Programmes;
g. assessing students and PhD and Master thesis.
Awards received by The Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research (2005), the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music (2007), The Voice Foundation (2011), Santander’s Scientific Internationalization Production (2013), Croatian Choral Directors Association and International Choral Institute award for Scientific Research in the field of Chorusology (2014) and Van Lawrence Award (2015) by the National Association of Teachers of Singing and The Voice Foundation, USA. Editorial experience includes Associate Editor of Logopedics Phoniatrics Vocology and editorial board of Journal of Voice.
I am a permanent member of the Pan-European Voice Conference (PeVoC) advisory board, a member of Collegium, Medicorum Theatre, CoMeT and a referee for ISI journals: Logopedics Phoniatrics Vocology, Journal of Voice and Folia Phoniatrica et Locopedica.
During the past recent years, I have been invited to deliver keynotes, lecture seminars and practical workshops on voice science and technology applied to voice pedagogy and singing master classes in several countries (e.g. Spain, UK, Croatia, Sweden, Finland, Germany and USA).
I have been responsible for continuing educational programs for teachers of singing, closely collaborating with the European Voice Teachers Association (EVTA). I have established collaborative projects with KTH, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, London Institute of Education, UK, Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber, Dresden, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, New York University, USA and Jacob’s School of Music, Indiana University, Bloomington, USA.
As a singer, I have worked with Carol Smith, Charles Hamilton, Richard Miller, Rudolf Pierney, Susan McCullok, Robin Bowman, Claire Vangeliste, Ingrid Tobioson, Annette Thompson, Laura Sarti, Håkan Hagegård and Brian P. Gill. I have specialized in Song Recitals, performing English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian repertoire.
